Build confidence with conversational English and learn grammar, language functions, everyday expressions, vocabulary and speaking practice. The style is simple, clear and easy to follow, and will help learners develop confidence in speaking English correctly, both at work and in their personal lives.
Section 1: Instructions and Advice Learn how to give and follow instructions. Learn simple grammar – Modals – need to, should, should not, should never. Master some everyday expressions – having trouble, easy as pie, do someone a favor. Build vocabulary, by following instructions for making a smoothie – assembling ingredients and following instructions. Practice speaking with the examples that recap the lessons – about giving and following instructions.
Section 2: You Choose Learn about choices – This or that? These or those? / … or … / Making choices. Learn some simple grammar – some/any. Master some common phrases and expressions – Would you like …? / a bite to eat / on time / on the dot. Build vocabulary of words – which, favorite. Practice speaking with the examples that recap the lessons about choices – Would you like? … or …, which, favorite, choosing from a menu.
Section 3: Asking for Help Learn how to ask for help – asking for information, asking how, asking directly and asking indirectly. Learn some simple grammar – Inversion to make a question, Can you …? Will you …? Would you …? Could you …? Master some common phrases and expressions – give me a hand / lend me a hand, eye contact, high five. Build vocabulary of words – helpful, friendly, positive. Practice speaking with the examples that recap the lessons about choices – asking directly and asking indirectly.
Section 4: How do Your Feel? Compare positive and negative feelings. Use because to connect the two parts/ideas in a sentence. Use everyday expressions about feelings such as What’s the matter? or What’s wrong? Build vocabulary with words that describe feelings. Be able to practice talking about feelings in English.
