Understanding and Implementing Privacy Protections in Law Firms

This course provides a detailed overview of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH), focusing on their implications for law firms. Participants will learn about Protected Health Information (PHI), the responsibilities of covered entities and business associates, and the enforcement mechanisms of these acts. Through a combination of theoretical understanding and practical applications, legal professionals will gain insights into how to navigate the complex landscape of health information privacy to ensure compliance and protect client information effectively.

Martin A. Ginsburg, RN graduated from Barry University in Miami Shores, FL with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and attained licensure as a Registered Nurse. His clinical experience includes Medical/Cardiac critical (intensive) care, emergency department, home health, and nursing education. Ginsburg has worked in a major county hospital in South Florida as the facility began its intensivist program providing primary care in a critical care setting. In Raleigh, he worked in a community hospital, leaving behind the high-tech focus of South Florida for a setting that allowed much more patient interaction. Ginsburg has also worked as an adjunct clinical instructor and a nursing preceptor. Changing focus, Ginsburg later graduated from Meredith College’s ABA-approved Paralegal Studies Program and currently works as a paralegal nurse consultant.
