This course is designed to give students an understanding of the physical and mental changes produced by stress. The course teaches students to recognize the signs and symptoms of a person in crisis. From a law enforcement perspective, students will be able to identify the models of police intervention, understand the limits of police intervention, and describe how stress can impair a person’s performance.
This course will enable students to identify the essential five conflict management styles and know how to select the most appropriate intervention. By the completion of this course, students will also be able to successfully identify basic criteria for effective communication in a conflict or crisis situation and will be able to demonstrate knowledge in the subject of proxemics.
