Navigating the New Passive Income Rules

This course provides a focused overview of the two key pillars of the Canadian government’s passive income tax proposals, both of which apply to taxation years beginning after December 31, 2018. These changes have a significant impact on private corporations, particularly those earning investment income, and are critical for tax professionals and business owners to understand.
You’ll learn how the small business deduction is now subject to a clawback when adjusted aggregate investment income exceeds $50,000, and how the refundable dividend tax regime has been amended to include two new accounts: the non-eligible RDTOH and the eligible RDTOH. This course will help you navigate the complexities of the rules and provide practical guidance on tax planning strategies to mitigate their impact.
